One of the most expensive and necessary parts of your home is the HVAC system, which makes it possible to keep your home comfortable no matter what type of weather is outside. Many people fail to have their unit properly maintenance due to the desire to save money but trying to cut corners with your HVAC unit will only be more costly in the future when it breaks down. Instead of avoiding routine maintenance, you should view it as an investment in your HVAC unit and its health. Here are a few of the many benefits of regular maintenance by Rhode island air conditioning.

Healthier Environment

Many people fail to realize that a poorly maintenanced HVAC unit can lead to a reduction in the quality of air inside of their home. Most studies have shown that an HVAC unit that is not maintenance regularly has up to 3 times the dirt in the air than the outside does. This can lead to numerous sinus and respiratory problems that can be very detrimental to your health. The dirty air can lead to long term problems with your lungs that can be avoided by properly maintenancing your unit with the help of a professional technician.

Longer Lifespan

Another very important benefit that regular maintenance by Rhode Island Air Conditioning Contractors can bring is a longer life for your HVAC unit. By having the unit looked at every year, you will be able to catch problems before they get worse and lead to lengthy and expensive repairs. Also regular maintenance will help to extend the life of your unit, which can help save you a lot of money. By letting your unit fall into disrepair, you will be at risk of having to replace the whole unit, which can cost thousands of dollars in repairs.

If you find yourself in need of hvac repair, then look no further than Restivo’s Heating and Air Conditioning. They have over 80 years of experience in the industry which they can bring to your repair and maintenance.

Nuclear power seriously considered for ASEAN power grid

The Philippines and other members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are becoming alarmed over the rapid increase of global oil prices and are seriously looking into prospects of building nuclear powered plants to energize the electric needs of the 10 member nations of ASEAN.

The heads of Asean Power Utilities/Authorities (Hapua) Council got together in Manila this week and are forming an ASEAN Power Grid.

Energy ministers and delegates from ASEAN member countries, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines are pursuing alternative sources of energy and connecting the power grids of the member countries.

A task force was created by the Philippines Department of Energy that will look into the possibility of using nuclear power as a counter-measure to dependence on oil to power up the Philippines and the rest of ASEAN’s power generators.

Energy secretary Angelo Reyes also received the recommendations from a six-man team from the International Atomic Energy Agency on the prospects of operating the moth-balled Bataan Nuclear Power Plant.

The Bataan nuclear plant was first built in the late seventies under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos but was scrapped by President Corazon Aquino in 1986 owing to kick-backs in the plant’s construction and safety concerns.

Reyes stated that the council and the department was also looking into alternative sources of renewal energy such as solar and wind power, biomass, geothermal and hydro-electric to reduce dependency on fossil fuel.

For the time, the Philippines has implemented several measures on conserving energy particularly the conversion to compact fluorescent lights (CFLs).

Ozzy Osbourne’s personal possessions fetch $800,000 for charity

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 3:07 pm

Sunday, December 2, 2007

American heavy metal performer Ozzy Osbourne, who became famous as the lead vocalist for Black Sabbath and later as a solo act, has raised more than US$800,000 for The Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program, founded by his spouse Sharon Osbourne at the Cedars Sinai Hospital, by auctioning off personal items.

A number of the items that he auctioned off over the two day period have been seen on his reality TV show The Osbournes, which featured home life with Sharon, Ozzy and their two children. Amongst some of the higher-priced items were a carved walnut Victorian-style custom built pool table which raised $11,250, a painting from Edourad Drouot which fetched $10,500, a pair of Ozzy’s famous round glasses which raised $5,250 and a dog bed given to Sharon by Elton John which sold for $2,375.

Some more famous items were also amongst the 500 lots offered. Ozzy’s black satin coat, complete with bat-wing cape, raised $3,300 and a hand-painted floral cup used regularly on The Osbournes made $1,625. A bronze plaque of a demon’s head that was regularly seen in its position adorning the front door of their house had been expected to go for $800 to $1,200instead raised $8,750. A wire model of the Eiffel Tower from on the kitchen table sold for $10,000, while skull-covered trainers Ozzy had worn reached $2,625. Bidders came from as far away as Germany to buy what they could from his mansion in Beverly Hills, California.

However, three cars included in the auction failed to attract bidders and did not sell. They were a 2006 Bentley Continental Flying Spur, estimated at $160,000 to $180,000, a 2005 Cadillac CTS-V sedan estimated at $30,000 to $40,000 and a 1950 Oldsmobile Futuramic 88 Club Coupe previously owned by author Danielle Steel estimated at $40,000 to $50,000. Sharon had earlier said of the cars “We’re not great car people. They really don’t do a lot for us.

Darren Julien, president of Julien’s Auctions, which organised the two-day sale, said “It did very well. It raised some good money for a very worthy cause.”

“For a celebrity garage sale, it was pretty spectacular.,” he went on. He also commented on the fact that there was fierce competition for the many artworks included. “We had Ozzy fans bidding against these sophisticated fine art buyers, which you don’t see every day. For the most part the metalheads were outbidding the art crowd.”

The Training And Skills You Need To Become A Forensic Accountant

Filed under: Lawyers — Admin @ 3:46 pm

By Kenneth Echie

If you ask somebody what their job or profession is, and after they’ve answered, you will probably have a general idea of what they do. Common terms are something we associate with; it helps us to feel knowledgeable about the world around us.

What if I asked you this question, ‘Do you know what a forensic accountant does?’

Since I associate forensics with science and accounting with numbers, I would have to say they count and number bones. Well, if you thought that too, we’d both be wrong. A forensic accountant does use their knowledge of accounting, but they are also able to use investigation techniques to help solve financial and business problems.

Still sound boring?

Just wait.

What does it take to become a forensic accountant?

You will have to have a bachelor’s degree in accounting. It will also help to be a CPA, Certified Public Accountant. You may want to add CFE, Certified Fraud Examiner to your list of credentials.

You will need to possess a strong attention to detail. Most people have this trait when working in this field, but having an investigative mind is an asset to your profession. It does take an education in accounting but it also takes somebody who has a desire to help solve crimes.

You could be working bankruptcy, money laundering, and even capital crime cases. Anything that has to do with business dealings, analytical research and being allowed to be curious while working is what sets you apart from a regular accountant. You’ll still be using your accounting skills but as more of an investigator.

Are you getting interested now?

Why would you want to be a forensic accountant?

Why not?

It would surely be one of those interesting careers that would cause people to ask questions once you’ve told them; and who doesn’t like to tell people about what they do for a living, especially when it is intriguing.

You would be working with legal issues such as money laundering and fraud. Forensic accounts often look over other peoples work too to see if any avenues haven’t been explored, they are always hunting for patterns. They are allowed to be investigative and still work within the scope of their profession. Since a forensic accountant deals with many legal cases, they can also participate as expert witnesses.

If you watch Law & Order: CI you may have seen a character named Leon Martel. He plays a forensic accountant on the show. Television helps to recognize unknown professional and there is no doubt that those who do work in this field know the importance of their contribution. There’s no guarantee that a spin off show will be produced based on this character, but its interesting to see what a forensic accountant does while assisting law enforcement.

It is sounding better and better isn’t it?

How rewarding is a career as a forensic accountant?

It’s very rewarding. You’ll be able to work for insurance companies, financial institutions, local law enforcement or even the FBI.

If you love to join this rewarding profession, I encourage you to do more research on the web. You can do this by visiting websites that cover the profession in more detail.

Norfolk youths banned from buying eggs and ketchup

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 3:14 pm

Wednesday, April 9, 2008

Youths in the Norfolk town of Caister-on-Sea, near Great Yarmouth, England, have been banned from purchasing “squirty bottles” of ketchup, and eggs after a number of complaints from residents in the area. The move, which is backed by the Norfolk Police, is aimed at reducing the number of anti-social incidents occurring in the area. Sergeant Andy Brown, of the Norfolk Police, has said that no further complaints have been received since the ban came into force.

I know it sounds a bit daft, but it has made a difference because we’ve had no more reported incidents since the supermarkets came on board.

While squirting ketchup itself is not a criminal offence, the damage that it can cause, such as removing paint from cars or houses, is often enough to bring charges of criminal damage. Sgt Brown said that there were “about a dozen complaints from residents, some of them elderly, about people squirting ketchup over doors, windows and vehicles.” Martin Bailie, a spokesperson for Lidl supermarkets, has defended his staff’s actions, saying “the stores’ staff were [already] challenging youngsters who were trying to bulk buy these things. It wasn’t that we haven’t been selling eggs and ketchup to youths, but have been careful about who we have sold them to, and we are glad it has been making a difference.”

Australian state of Queensland will go to the polls on March 21

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 3:12 pm

Thursday, February 26, 2009

The Premier of the Australian state of Queensland has announced that the state will have its election on Saturday, March 21. In an address on YouTube, Anna Bligh of the Australian Labor Party said that she called the election due to the state of the economy and to stabilise the government.

“It’s time for Queensland to settle this election. It’s time to settle the speculation. So that government, business and the community can get on with the task at hand and not be distracted and destabilised by looming elections,” Ms Bligh said in the statement.

Ms Bligh has recently denied that she would call an early election.

“I have always said that I want my government to run the full term and I have not changed my view on this lightly,” she said.

“After 11 years in office, Ms Bligh only cares about one job: her own,” said Lawrence Springborg head of the Liberal National Party (LNP) and the Leader of the Opposition. “Queensland deserves better. Over the next 27 days, the LNP will build on our vision for the Queensland we all deserve.”

The Opposition need to pick up at least twenty seats from the government to overcome the significant Labor majority and a number of independents.

“It is a sad legacy of economic management and mismanagement of the Labor Government that after 11 years of the rivers of gold, our state is broke,” Mr Springborg said. “It’s a little bit like lighting a fire and then running around and wanting credit for putting it out.”

A March 21 election gives candidates twenty six day to campaign. This is just within the legal requirements. The Queensland Electoral Act (1992) requires the election campaign to last between 26 and 56 days.

The Queensland Greens nominated an environmental lawyer to run against treasurer Andrew Fraser.

“We can tackle climate change and create long-term jobs, but Labor can’t see that because they are blinded by the interests of their big donors – the urban development and coal industries,” says Larrisa Waters, the Greens candidate for Mt-Cootha.

“The Greens want to give the community and the environment a voice back in State Parliament.”

“The current stance taken by both major parties, in relation to Daylight Saving in Queensland, is outdated, out of touch and inflexible. South East Queenslanders are frustrated that neither major party is currently prepared to explore options on the issue of Daylight Saving”, DS4SEQ party leader Jason Furze told Wikinews on January 30. DS4SEQ is a single-issue party, focused on the debate on daylight saving time.

Indigenous activist Sam Watson will be contesting the South Brisbane electorate which is currently held by the premier. He will represent the Socialist Alliance. Watson campaigned heavly for indigenous rights since the 1970s and was a community spokesperson following the death of Mulrunji Doomadgee in 2004.

Top Tips for Making Crafts At Home With Your Children, and Paper Free Mache Recipe

by

mmnewbold

Encouraging your child’s creativity at home by creating craft items is very beneficial for their mental development. Children can explore different textures, shapes and patterns, and discover how to put ideas into action by handling different materials, and sticking and gluing them together. But lets not forget, it’s great fun and a good way to spend some quality time focussing your attention on your children.

Buying materials from a craft store can be expensive, so why not start a junk/scraps box. All you need is a box or a large storage bag that you keep in a cupboard ready to store your household junk. It’s easy to start collecting and is surprising how quickly your junk box or bag will fill up. Just remember that every time you are in the kitchen preparing meals, keep all the empty boxes, tubs or tubes you normally throw away, and add these to your craft box. Also, whenever you come across any interesting items, you can put them in your box ready for when you want to make one of our crafts. Collect lots of items, from different shaped boxes, cardboard tubes, shiny paper, drinking straws, plastic bottle tops, and clean ice-lolly sticks. Craft shops stock an extensive range of craft materials. Why not visit your local store and buy a selection of items to store in your box. Look out for cheaper end of lines, bargain buckets, and reduced price crafts that have damaged packaging. If you look out for bargains, or just buy one or two inexpensive items per week, you will quickly build up a good stock of craft materials in your home craft box. Look out for feathers, pom poms, wiggly eyes, wool, material, tissue paper, coloured paper and glitter. Even at Christmas you could collect lots of shiny things to use, including small bits of tinsel, wrapping paper, ribbons, gift tags, parcel twine, and shiny foil sweet wrappers. While out shopping, check out material and fabric shops for fabric cut-offs and scraps, odd buttons, and for cheap balls of wool or yarn. Kitchen shops often sell cheap wooden spoons. You can make a whole family of spoon puppets just by sticking fabric and wool onto wooden spoons and drawing on faces with felt-tipped pens. Don’t forget to always have lots of paint, coloured crayons, glue and sticky tape at home! Here is a recipe for home-made Paper Mache. This is so simple to make, but can be very messy indeed, so make sure you cover up with an apron, coverall, or wear some old clothes that you don’t mind getting messed up. Once made, paper mache does not keep very well, so only try to make as much as you think you will need for the day. Paper Mache You will need – Large bowl, Newspaper, Pva glue, Water, Brush, Balloon. To Make – Pour Pva glue into a bowl, add a small amount of water and mix. Cover your balloon with the glue and layers of newspaper, keep pasting on the glue with a brush. Tip – Prepare newspaper before you start to make the paste, tear up the newspaper into strips and leave in a pile ready. You can use wallpaper paste instead of PVA glue. Children must be supervised at all times. This craft and a lot more are available, along with photographs, in full colour, in our free Messy Tots mini-craft book by instant download.
