Creating A Safe Home For Seniors

Filed under: Real Estate — Admin @ 3:40 pm

Submitted by: Stewart Wrighter

As people age, it becomes more and more challenging to live alone. Challenge or not, many seniors are unwilling to give up their independence and they decide to go on living at home. Some may choose to move in with relatives instead of living in a senior center or an assisted living community. This way they have company and someone with them in case of an emergency, but they maintain their independence and live happily. If you have a relative who will be moving in with you or you need to ensure the home of a senior relative is safe, there are some important issues to address. Begin with making sure any electric renovations are taken care of professionally. Electric wiring can help homeowners upgrade to safer options, which not only makes the home safer for seniors, but safer for everyone living in the space.

Be sure all of the appliances in the home are working well. Seniors are more likely to stay home and take care of tasks like cooking and entertaining themselves, so you need to be sure everything is in good order. If you have been putting offer repairs because you dine out so frequently or because the dry cleaner handles your laundry issues, now is the time to get things fixed. Your senior relatives are going to be using these appliances and in order to be safe and effective; they need to be in good repair.

As people age, it can become more and more challenging to navigate areas of the house like the bathroom. There are a number of options for making the bathroom safer and more comfortable for those who would otherwise be at risk in the shower or getting into and out of the bathtub. Some changes are as simple as installing bars that allow bathers to maintain balance in a slippery area. More advanced options offer lifts that can mechanically transport people into the tub with ease.

The bathroom may not be the only place seniors will have trouble getting around. If you live in a home with more than one floor, residents are going to have to climb stairs. This can be difficult and dangerous for seniors who have trouble moving. Chair lifts can be installed on your staircase to transport seniors up and down safely. If you want to make a major long-term renovation, you can have an elevator installed in the home. This is a pricey commitment, but if you want to make it really easy for seniors to get around indoors, this may be the right solution for you.

Your final upgrade to ensure safe living for seniors is to create an emergency alert system. If you will be living with your senior loved one, this may be something as simple as a whistle or intercom system. The point of having your senior relative move in is so you are just a few steps away in case of an emergency. If your loved one chooses to stay in their own home, emergency services can be set up that will alert an ambulance should there be an emergency. This helps keep your senior safe and ensures they will not be left injured for long periods of time should they fall or experience pain.

Grand National winning horse ‘Comply or Die’ dies, aged 17

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 4:01 pm

Wednesday, May 11, 2016

Comply or Die, the racehorse who won the 2008 Grand National has died at the age of 17. His death was announced by his former trainer, David Pipe. He died over at the weekend in Gloucestershire, where he had been staying with jockey Timmy Murphy. He was cremated on Monday and his ashes will return to Murphy.

Murphy was the jockey in the saddle when Comply or Die won the 2008 Grand National. Speaking to the Press Association, he spoke about the horse’s death. He said, “He was part of the furniture at home so it’s very sad. He gave me the greatest day of my career, obviously that can never be taken away. He paraded at Cheltenham and Aintree and was getting ready to do some dressage in the summer. I’m not actually sure how he died, to be honest, but it wasn’t nice to come home to. He was cremated on Monday. He was a happy horse and he was also very clever.”

During his racing career he made £798,809 in prize-money after winning a total of eight races.

The 2008 Grand National victory was his greatest achievement and he almost matched it when he came second place in 2009. He retired in 2011 but remained active, often being paraded at race grounds such as Aintree and Cheltenham. He also participated in some hunting activities. Pipe said, “Since his retirement he had been a lead-horse at Timmy Murphy’s establishment before trying his hand at dressage, a discipline in which he had proven very successful”.

Tributes have been paid to Comply or Die on social media by horse racing fans with several tweeting their appreciation and memories.

Toronto Comicon 2019 welcomes fans with celebrities, creativity, cosplay

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 4:00 pm

Friday, March 29, 2019Toronto Comicon 2019 returned to its titular city from March 15 to 17, as one of the largest pop culture events in Canada. The popular event featured celebrity guests like actors Dan Fogler, Ron Perlman, John De Lancie, John Rhys-Davies, and Jaleel White, as well as comic artists, authors, and professional cosplayers. The event included a large show floor with hundreds of retailers and artists promoting their creations. Wikinews’ Nicholas Moreau attended the event, taking photos of the various sights.

John Rhys-Davies broke news when he revealed that a Sliders reboot is being considered. “Jerry [O’Connell] and I are talking to NBC at the moment. The basic problem is that no one knows who owns the rights”. Their legal department had apparently been looking into the matter for two months, as of the convention weekend. Emma Caufield talked of being cast in an NBC television pilot while a recurring guest actor on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Faced with loosing the character of Anya Jenkins, the producers finally committed to making her a regular. “It was a good day,” she recalls.

Special effects costumer Ian Campbell, whose screen credits include Star Trek: Discovery, had a booth at the convention displaying his prop replicas and cosplay items. Amidst the bustle of activity, Campbell was working on a Thanos helmet sculpt. After the convention, he told Wikinews that “it can be tough to maintain focus with so many people streaming past and along questions, but sculpting in front of a crowd at conventions is great because it allows people to see the process that goes into what I do […] it also can serve as inspiration to other to pursue their own artistic endeavors.”

Lisa Mancini has been cosplaying for two years, her “passion” for the hobby “stemmed through my love for Halloween.” She typically chooses “to portray beloved characters from childhood or strong females. I also enjoy a good gender bent cosplay to ensure a touch of uniqueness!”

Mancini told Wikinews after the event that the best part of cosplay is “bringing a character to life.” One of the characters she took on this year was Squirrel Girl, a Marvel Comics character. Mancini has been described by the Daily Hive as a “squirrel whisperer”, for the close affinity some of the animals have for her.

Stephanie Chapman has knit a variety of knit outfits, an uncommon technique for cosplay. Prompted by Ron Perlman’s visit, she wore a costume based on Hellboy character Abe Sapien, which lacks the eyeholes of her normal masks. With “Abe, I wanted to go for accuracy over comfort,” Chapman told Wikinews, a choice leaving her largely helpless without a handler. The costume “is very warm […] so I have to stay hydrated and try to keep as calm as possible. It’s just really hard to stay calm when I meet someone like Ron Perlman”. With the combination of excitement and “the stress I’m putting on my body”, she shared that she was prone to meltdown in suit.

A good set of clean teeth in your mouth will make people want to talk to and associate with you. It will also boost your self-confidence and add an extra sparkle to your smile.

On the other hand, stained or injured teeth can bring several negativities to your life. They can make the process of feeding challenging for you, leading to unwanted health issues. They can also affect your confidence terribly and make you feel uneasy anytime you smile in public.

Thankfully, the good news is that you can treat these problems and return your teeth to the perfect shiny precious things they used to be. This article will teach top crucial tips to help care for your teeth and treat dental problems effectively.

What does General Dentistry Mean?

General dentistry entails the processes involved in diagnosing and treating problems in your gums and teeth. These problems often require full, prompt attention because they can grow into more serious dental problems if not quickly treated. Moreover, treating them on time is necessary to maintain healthy and strong teeth for yourself. Some of these dental problems and how to treat them will be discussed below:

Tooth Cavities

Cavities are holes in the teeth, often caused by tooth decay or other related issues. Fixing this problem involves removing the decayed part of the teeth and replacing it with a tooth filling. A professional dentist should do this process. General dentists can carry out the process quickly, administering pain killers to reduce the pain for you.

Sensitive Teeth

Tooth sensitivity entails one of the most popular dental problems people experience today. It involves the hypersensitivity of the teeth and gums to coldness, hotness, and other mouth conditions. General dentists should be able to prescribe medical treatments for this problem. They can also help to stop it from being a reoccurring issue. They will do this by performing treatments or recommending products according to the problem’s cause.

Chipped or Broken Teeth

It has become general knowledge that teeth are among the most robust bones in a human’s body. However, they can fracture or break sometimes. When this happens, a Dental Technician can treat the problem with minor drill work and plenty of small chips or with a cavity and temporary cap.

Cleaning and Maintaining the Teeth

If you wish to continue enjoying a healthy and strong set of teeth for more extended periods, then it is necessary that you adequately clean and maintain it regularly. You can achieve this through regular visits to your dentist for proper check-ups, X-rays, and professional cleaning. Also, ensure to brush and floss your teeth every day.

Conclusion

It is established that your teeth are crucial to your health, survival, and appearance. This is why it is critical to care for them in the best possible ways. This article has discussed some tips to help you achieve this.

Aylesbury, England — The Arsenal F.C. midfielder Jermaine Pennant, currently on loan to Birmingham City, has today pleaded guilty to drink-driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance by Aylesbury magistrates court. Pennant received a sentence of three months imprisonment. Pennant’s lawyer, Bary Warbutton, has said that the footballer will appeal against the severity of the sentence.

The incident occurred on January 23 of this year, Pennant was arrested after crashing teammate Ashley Cole’s car into a lamppost. The 22-year-old claimed that he crashed the car after attempting to operate the car’s Satellite navigation system.

Despite the claim by Warbutton that imprisonment “could completely destroy his career”, Birmingham City have said that they will stand by the player, and help to rehabilitate him. Arsenal released a statement saying that the sentence would not impact the player’s future with the club; his contract with club expires in the summer, at the same time as his loan-spell with Birmingham ends.

Staging Tips To Get More Money For Your Home}

Filed under: Tenders — Admin @ 4:00 pm

Submitted by: Kavin Miller

If you have decided to transition your property into a furnished rental, or you are converting a property listed for sale into a rental due to a low amount of market interest, you have many things to consider. However, ask any property sales or rental experts what they recommend to be sure you get the right clientele and ongoing rentals, and you hear one word: staging.

The Value of a Staged Rental

Staging is done to prepare the property in a way that makes it the most appealing to your intended audience. Thus, a staged rental (for those who are relying on CHBO or Corporate Housing By Owner to help them get a lot of attention for a furnished rental) has to be one that looks and offers a lot to corporate renters.

Knowing just what those who travel for business or have extended stays while traveling for their company want in a furnished rental is the key to success. Naturally, that is not always the easiest thing to uncover.

Fortunately, if you are working with CHBO, you can really set the stage properly by ensuring that your rentals are CHBO Complete. This is a formal process that results in a quality seal tagging the furnished rental as offering the highest quality amenities, furnishings, and services.

Just consider that any CHBO Complete rental is one that features a rental rate that includes everything from utilities, water and trash to high-speed Internet and expanded cable. It is also one in which each room is stocked according to a very specific list. For instance, the complete rental has appliances and kitchen gear ranging from blenders and water filters to cutlery trays and placemats.

While the standard staged rental will meet some specific criteria (which we’ll look at in a moment), the CHBO Complete rental is a turn-key and quality option that also has all of the appeal of a fully staged rental.

What Is a Well-Staged Property?

The tips we’d emphasize for getting the most rentals and the most income out of your furnished rental would have to include these staging tactics:

Simplify the furnishings, color schemes, and dcor. Understated Interiors with pale or neutral hues make for a relaxing, welcoming and casual atmosphere.

Good lighting makes spaces appear cleaner, newer and more spacious. Use sheer curtains and blinds to catch natural light too.

Simplified but comfortable and welcoming is also key. You can make a staged rental a bit too Spartan if it is done to streamlined. Be sure that every furnishing is comfortable and try to add some touches that make the property appear lived in. Wall art, some bursts of color from pillows or accessories really add up.

Understand the market demands. For example, many multi-bedroom properties might not appeal to a corporate client, but if you have three or four bedrooms and can turn one into a full-blown home office, you will satisfy your intended market.

Don’t forget down time. Furnished rentals have to be great interior spaces, but many corporate and extended stay renters would also appreciate furnished patios, nice yards or cozy outdoor spots to relax.

You can boost rentals and earnings just by going CHBO Complete and using these staging tips.

Greek demonstrators protest austerity measures

Filed under: Uncategorized — Admin @ 3:41 pm

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

Protestors in Greece, rallying against austerity measures, have clashed with police in the capital of Athens.

Some people participating in the rally — attended by thousands of teachers and students — threw stones at riot police, who responded by employing pepper spray, although the BBC described the protests as being generally peaceful. Demonstrators say that a recent austerity proposal, which is to include pension cuts and an increase in taxes, will adversely affect the education sector.

Teachers, along with hospital workers and public servants, have started a two-day strike over the measures. Also present were 150 members of the armed forces, who protested having their bonuses lowered.

Meanwhile, earlier on Tuesday, approximately a hundred demonstrators with the Communist Party broke through locks at the Acropolis and hung up banners saying: “Peoples of Europe — Rise Up”.

Communist Member of Parliament Nikos Papaconstantinou commented: “We want to send a message to the farthest reaches of Greece and Europe. Similar measures that eliminate social security are taken across Europe. But popular anger will rattle imperialist organisations.”

The austerity plan comes shortly after the Greek government said it would introduce spending cuts to obtain a loan package by the EU and International Monetary Fund, aimed at helping Greece recover from a financial crisis.

What would you tell your grandchildren about 2007 if they asked you about it in, let’s say, 20 year’s time? If the answer to a quiz question was 2007, what would the question be? The year that you first signed on to Facebook? The year Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse fell apart? The year author Kurt Vonnegut or mime Marcel Marceau died, both at 84?

Let’s take a look at some of the international stories of 2007. Links to the original Wikinews articles are in bold.
