Fashion For Women

Shopping for women s apparel has never been this good. The selections are getting wider and better, with so many different styles, designer labels, and off-the-rack outfits available for women of all sizes, shapes, and ages. The most important factors that women consider when buying fashion are still style and color. Comfort, fit, and designer labels are also significant factors that are considered in purchases. When choosing styles, women are now looking for apparel that they can wear both to work and to socialize. Pantsuits, skirt suits, blazers and the classic white blouse are favorites in the office, while off-the-rack outfits and jeans remain popular for casual wear.

When shopping for fashion, it s important to know how to pick the right clothes for you. Merely copying what is touted as the current trend or what is fashionable will just make you a fashion victim. A wardrobe that is fashionable but still fits your lifestyle, your age, and your figure will be the best. Try to get a good mix of trendy and basic apparel, so that you won t have to update your wardrobe every time a new fashion season comes along.

One of the hottest niches in the fashion industry is designing and marketing fashion apparel for teens. This is due to the fact that teenagers account for billions of dollars spent each year on clothing and accessories. Anyone will agree that teenagers are habitu s of shopping malls, and discount apparel shops as well as designer outlets are picking up healthy profits from teens buying trendy outfits every season. Tank tops, athletic wear and sports shirts, short skirts and low-rise jeans are very popular items. Trendy clothes that sell at reasonable prices are hot for teenagers, and merchandisers who give them value along with great fashion benefit the most. As a result, stores like Wal-Mart and Target get more teenage sales than outlets like the Gap.

Denim wear continues to be an all-time favorite, especially for teens. Jeans, jackets, skirts, and shorts are hot as ever. Jeans now come in an assortment of styles, whether it s slim fitting, low-waisted, or bootleg designs. As with all other fashion apparel, different styles are suitable for different wearers. For example, teens who want to appear more svelte-looking usually prefer low-rise jeans, while women with fuller figures like relaxed fit jeans for a sleeker look. Petite women with slim figures go for slim and snug designs, either with a tapered cut or boot-leg cut.

And denim doesn t come in just blue and black anymore. Jeans are now made with colors ranging from the usual blue and black to light brown, red, and ochre. You can even find jeans with military-type designs and colors, like khaki and olive green. One of the factors that make jeans popular is the fact that they can be worn with almost anything. Jeans can be coordinated with jackets, shirts, peasant tops, blouses, or almost anything else you may find in your closet. Teenagers often love to decorate their jeans with embellishments like beads and crystals to give them more flair and individuality, as well as to make a personal statement. Along with a complementary jacket, a shirt, and a pair of trainers, this outfit remains one of the favorites among teenagers.

Million Dollar Homepage is close to achieving million-dollar goal

Friday, December 30, 2005

Alex Tew, a student in England, has almost reached his target of one million dollars on his website: Million Dollar Homepage. He came up with the idea after jotting down ideas before he went to bed on how to become a millionaire before he went to university. Then he came up with the million-dollar idea: selling pixels at USD $1 each on a web page. Alex currently believes he can make his goal by the end of 31st December, 2005.

Advertising companies especially appreciate the website, as they wish to “make Internet history” on the Million Dollar Homepage. In fact as of writing, he has already made USD $999,000. The student says advertisers get to keep their ads for a period of five years from purchase and he says he will use the money he has made to guarantee it. Alex has said he has already got numerous job offers from companies aiming to secure his money making talent.

Tew is undergoing a business management course at Nottingham and needed GBP £7000 a year to complete his studies. He is understandably overwhelmed by the success he has achieved: “It’s just nuts. I’m in a state of disbelief. It’s like Monopoly money but then I look at my bank account and there’s a lot of cash in it.” The British National Union of Students claim that 90% of students are in debt. However, what only worries him is how he’s going to spend his money. He has already spent some of his money on a car for himself, as he thinks of what to do with his new fortune.

His website’s method is simple; his website is made up of one page divided into 10,000 boxes, each 100 pixels in size. Companies can buy one or more boxes for USD $100 each and cover it with a logo, which, when clicked on, transports web users to the customers’ own site. The figures add up with the site now carrying over 240 advertisements and has 30,000 hits a day. Even the actor Jack Black, star of “School of Rock” and “Shallow Hal“, is using the site to advertise his band Tenacious D.

Family sues CNN’s Nancy Grace after ‘heated debate’

Thursday, November 23, 2006

The family of a woman who committed suicide recently after appearing on CNN Headline News Nancy Grace’s self titled show said Tuesday that they will be taking her to court.

Melinda Duckett, the mother of an infant son, Trenton Duckett, reported him missing on August 27, and fatally shot herself in her grandparents’ retirement home on September 8. Shortly before her death, she had appeared on Grace’s show, where she engaged in debate with the former Georgia prosecutor regarding her perceived lack of transparency regarding the disappearance. A suicide note was later found at the scene. The case made national headlines after her appearance.

“Nancy Grace and the others, they just bashed her to the end,” said Duckett’s grandfather, Bill Eubanks, during an interview with The Orlando Sentinel. “She wasn’t one anyone ever would have thought of to do something like this. She and that baby just loved each other, couldn’t get away from each other. She wouldn’t hurt a bug.”

Grace’s spokeswoman called the suicide “a sad development,” and Grace herself issued a statement saying, “I do not feel that our show is to blame for what happened to Melinda Duckett.”

“The truth,” said Grace, “is not always nice or polite or easy to go down. Sometimes it’s harsh, and it hurts.”

However, thesmokinggun.com, a true crime website run by Court TV (where Grace also hosts a show), revealed pending litigation by the family on the behalf of Melinda Duckett’s estate. Duckett’s family is issuing a wrongful death claim against both CNN and Nancy Grace.

After the murder of Grace’s fiancee in 1979, she became a prosecutor in her native Georgia and later hosted her own show on Court TV, followed later by her CNN tenure. Grace, however, has been criticized for her sense of ethics and allegedly playing fast and loose with the facts, both in the courtroom and on the air.

Grace’s heated interview, however, was not without proper motive. The police had long suspected Melinda Duckett of involvement in her son’s disappearance, due to her behavior and contradictory statements. After Duckett’s suicide, police named her as a prime suspect in her son’s disappearance. Recently, they have announced that they have reason to believe that Trenton Duckett is still alive.

Early morning fire kills four New York group home residents

Sunday, March 22, 2009

After an early morning fire began, four out of the nine people living at the Riverview Individual Residential Alternative group home located in Wells, New York were killed by the blaze. The Sunmount Developmental Disabilities Services Office, which supervises the home, told the media that the fire started at approximately 5:30 AM Eastern Daylight Time. Two staff members were at the home at the time, who safely evacuated four of the five survivors.

The names of the residents killed in the fire were not able to be released due to New York’s Mental Hygiene Law, but are able to be identified as two adult men, aged 32 and 52, and two adult women, aged 43 and 60. A 71-year-old male was injured in the fire, and was taken to a hospital in Utica, a nearby city. The other four residents have been relocated to an unnamed group home. Both staff members are also being examined at the hospital.

“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the families, loved ones and friends of the four victims and to continue to pray for the full recovery of those five people and two staff members who survived this incident. I also want to express my thanks and appreciation for the first responders and volunteers who worked swiftly and diligently to respond to this tragedy,” David Patterson, the governor of New York, said to the media.

The exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined. However, the New York Civil Liberties Union stated that “the blaze appears to have been an electrical fire and the sprinkler system was knocked out immediately.” They also called for “an immediate investigation into the causes of and contributing factors of the fire.”

The New York State Department of State Office of Fire Prevention and Control is currently investigating the causes of the blaze, with help from New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the New York State Commission on Quality of Care and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities.

Earthquake hits Turkey, hundreds reported dead

Monday, October 24, 2011

At least 264 people were killed, said Interior Minister Idris Naim Sahin, in a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey yesterday. The quake was the strongest to hit Turkey in ten years. The city of Van has been heavily affected. The death toll was expected to rise.

A number of aftershocks has rattled Turkey since then, with the strongest one having a magnitude of 6.0. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan reported 55 buildings destroyed in Ercis, north of Lake Van. He said “because the buildings” in affected villages not yet reached “are made of adobe, they are more vulnerable to quakes. I must say that almost all buildings in such villages are destroyed.”

Rescue efforts are being affected due to power outages due to power line damage from the quake.

Over 1,300 people were reported injured.

Former ‘Top Model’ contestant Whitney Cunningham defends plus size models, celebrates the “regular woman”

Once you get a chance to talk to West Palm Beach, Florida native Whitney Cunningham, who placed seventh on the eighth cycle of the popular reality TV series America’s Next Top Model, you begin to understand what host Tyra Banks meant when she described her as the “full package.”

First of all, she is confident and headstrong, which is a must on these kinds of shows, almost as much as it is to take a beautiful modelesque picture. Second, she turns that confidence into drive. She has been receiving steady work as a model since leaving the show, and still believes that her goal of being the first woman to wear a size ten dress on the cover of Vogue is in reach. Third, and probably most important to television viewers, she obliterates the age-old model stereotype that to be pretty and photograph well, one must also be vapid and without a thought. A graduate of Dartmouth College, Cunningham also dreams of becoming a writer, and is working toward dual goals: a model who can express herself like no other model before her.

Cunningham recently sat down with Wikinews reporter Mike Halterman in an impassioned interview, taking hours to field questions from the reporter as well as from fans of America’s Next Top Model. Always in high spirits, Cunningham shows that she is a distinct personality who has carved her own niche in the Top Model history books. At the same time, she exhibits a joie de vivre that is oddly reminiscent of earlier Top Model fan favorite Toccara Jones, who showed America just how to be “big, black, beautiful and loving it.” However, Cunningham is quick to remind everyone that she isn’t big at all; she is simply a regular woman.

This is the first in a series of interviews with America’s Next Top Model contestants. Interviews will be published sporadically.

Wheelchair-bound Australian rescued in New Orleans

Tuesday, September 6, 2005

A 75 year old wheelchair-bound Australian man has been rescued from his home in New Orleans. Keith Faulkner was rescued by a neighbour after floodwaters stranded him in his home for five days. Mr Faulkner is suffering from cancer. He was left behind by his family as floodwaters rose.

“When the flooding started his family had no choice but to leave themselves, and he was left in the house as best they could manage,” the Australian ambassador to the United States said.

The man was eventually moved by neighbours to a nursing home in Lafayette.

“He was rescued by a neighbour after five days stranded in his house and he’s been in a nursing home in Lafayette, Louisiana,” said Alexander Downer, Minister for Foreign Affairs.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs has been criticised for the lack of support provided to Australian victims of the disaster. The Labor Party has been particularly scathing in its attacks.

“The bottom line is this: when it comes to helping Australians on the ground, the Australian Government has failed miserably to persuade its closest friend and ally – the United States Government – to allow Australian consular officials access to help our own people,” said opposition defence spokesman Kevin Rudd. Mr Rudd was referring to the US governments refusal of a request by Australian consular officials to enter New Orleans and search for Australians.

“You need a few days to allow people to assess the situation and to deploy personnel. But a week later, we have one official go in and can only stay there until night-time and then has to skedaddle out of there. I mean, what’s happening here? It’s just not good enough,” he added.

Some people have been critical of the Australians caught in the disaster. Former Federal Liberal Pary Minister Wilson Tuckey attacked the victims, suggesting that they should have left New Orleans earlier.

“Why was the woman quoted by the Leader of the Opposition today so insistent, not that the Prime Minister get her out of her problems, but the Australian taxpayer get her out of her problems, when in fact all the warnings we heard here in Australia [said it] was unwise to stay,” he said.

Latest trial of the One Laptop Per Child running in India; Uruguay orders 100,000 machines

Thursday, November 8, 2007

India is the latest of the countries where the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) experiment has started. Children from the village of Khairat were given the opportunity to learn how to use the XO laptop. During the last year XO was distributed to children from Arahuay in Peru, Ban Samkha in Thailand, Cardal in Uruguay and Galadima in Nigeria. The OLPC team are, in their reports on the startup of the trials, delighted with how the laptop has improved access to information and ability to carry out educational activities. Thailand’s The Nation has praised the project, describing the children as “enthusiastic” and keen to attend school with their laptops.

Recent good news for the project sees Uruguay having ordered 100,000 of the machines which are to be given to children aged six to twelve. Should all go according to plan a further 300,000 machines will be purchased by 2009 to give one to every child in the country. As the first to order, Uruguay chose the OLPC XO laptop over its rival from Intel, the Classmate PC. In parallel with the delivery of the laptops network connectivity will be provided to schools involved in the project.

The remainder of this article is based on Carla G. Munroy’s Khairat Chronicle, which is available from the OLPC Wiki. Additional sources are listed at the end.

Electronic Coupons And Rebates

Filed under: Financial Services — @ 2:20 am

By Tom Antion

Personally, I don’t really like coupons. I rarely use the things. In fact, I come close to going berserk in the check-out line at my local grocery store when I see a thick stack of coupons being pulled from the purse of the lady ahead of me.

But, even if you are like me, many people like coupons and coupons are definitely an effective sales tool. So are rebates. And unlike the grocery store check-out line, there’s no waiting in electronic check-out lines.

One of the benefits of using coupons to promote your products and services is that you can place printable coupons right on your website. You can also offer cash rebates on your products in the same way.

Some shopping cart systems, such as the one I use, Kick Start Cart ( http://www.KickStartCart.com ), have a coupon module that generates coupon and discount links. These discounts are automatically applied at check-out when someone gets to my site by clicking on one of these links. When clicking on one of these links, customers are taken to check-out and the coupon or rebate information is automatically populates the proper discount fields. This little step is also a time saver, so your customers will be doubly appreciative.

People like to get good deals on the things they buy. Using electronic coupons and rebates is one good way of doing this. And, as a bonus, some people shop specifically for discounted products, so if you are known as a merchant who gives coupons from time to time, you’ll be on the “watch list” of these bargain shoppers.
